I didn't come to this work through a business degree or a marketing background. I came to it the same way you did - as a hospitality business owner trying to make the numbers work without burning out.
Twenty years ago, my husband and I bought a dilapidated Victorian villa by the sea - a business that wasn't trading and was in a sorry state. We thought it would be simple.
It wasn't.

We poured blood, sweat and tears into turning it into somewhere special - only to find that was the easy part. Getting the right bookings, at the right price, consistently enough to live on, was something else entirely. The dream we'd chased had quickly become a nightmare. We were exhausted and not making anything.
Then the 2008 recession hit. Bookings stopped. For a while, I thought we'd lose everything.
But that period forced me to see what I'd missed. Working hard wasn't the problem. The way I was running the business was. So I rebuilt it - properly. Not by chasing more bookings - by stepping back and designing it the way I should have from the start.
It became award-winning. Truly profitable. And we got our lives back. It thrived through the recession and we eventually sold it at a premium price.
What I'd learnt the hard way became the foundation of The Thrive Method™.
That was 16 years ago. Mentoring hospitality business owners has been my full-time work ever since - hundreds of them, around the world, through every kind of market: booming, broken, recovering, shifting.
Today, I focus specifically on owners of independent hotels through my mentorship programme, Thrive.
A small group of owners I coach personally over six months, helping them to build hotels that are profitable, calm and genuinely enjoyable to run.
